Thor! |A Bunny Blogger Feature

Hello everyone!! I have another bunny story for you!

This little bunny’s name is Thor.

By: Lauren Galle-Boyko

Thor 615

Snuggle Bunny, I love you!

History

Thor was brought to E.A.R.S as a baby by his owner because his owner had an accidental litter. He is 2 years old and is a silver fox breed. His fur color is black. He was fostered before coming, but now he is at E.A.R.S waiting for a loving family to take him home.

Fact: It is known that if a bunny is bonded to another bunny, they are inseparable!

thor 593

Notice his front paws and the shape his darkened fur makes!)

Personality

Now, Thor loves to be pet! He will sit and let you pet him and he is sooo soft!!!!!! If you want to take a picture of him, well, he will definitely pose for you as well!!! He will sniff playfully.

Fact: Did you know that if a bunny does a binky, that means he/she is very happy?

Why to adopt Thor

If you are thinking to adopt this cute bunny, then do it!! He will melt your heart away. This bunny needs to be adopted into a loving home and be very well taken care of. I recommend Thor to you!!!!

Featured Bunnies!| A Bunny Blogger Feature

It is always a hoppy day at E.A.R.S!  On this particular interview day, the bunnies were visited by several children and enjoying the special attention they were getting.  This blog article features several bunnies and their visitor friends.

By: Lauren Galle-Boyko

Oliver

oliver581

This little cutie is a lion head/silver martin breed and he 1 ½ years old. He, along with his brother, were not wanted by the owner.  So, the owner brought him and his brother to E.A.R.S. His brother was adopted, and now Oliver is looking for a home of his own. In this picture, David St. George came to visit.

Chip

chip549

Little Chip came from  New Jersey. He came to E.A.R.S. because if he was not taken in by a rescue he would have been sent to auction. Chip is 5 months old. He is an English lop bunny with VERY long ears!!! He is a love bug!! Chip was adopted once, but it wasn’t a good match with the family dog. So he, once again, is looking for a forever home.  This photo features visitor Aidan stopping by to enjoy the sun with him.

Chip546

Courage

courage553

This pretty brown/gray bunny is named Courage. She is 1 ½ years old and is a mini-lop. The snap shot of courage has Lauren (me) holding her. She already has a loving family, but we have more mini lops up for adoption just as beautiful as her.

Mooi

mooi 534 (1)

And of course, don’t forget Mooi (our bunny feature from last week). At E.A.R.S, Mooi looks sad in her cage, but when she comes out to play, she is very lively with people and other bunnies! Natalie St. George was also visiting this day and enjoyed her snuggles. She is a Dutch bunny.

LOOKING FOR OUR FOREVER HOME!

No matter which bunny you choose, they all would love to have a family to call their own. Adopting a bunny makes your family and home complete.

Mooi | A Bunny Blogger Feature

Hello all you bunny lovers!!! The story today is about a sweet bunny named Mooi.

By: Lauren Galle-Boyko

Mooi 516

History

Mooi’s birthday is on July 4th, 2014. So, she is 2 years old. She used to be fostered before coming here. She is also a Dutch bunny. Her parents had not been spayed or neutered so they had too many bunnies. Mooi came in as a baby because the owners did not keep all the bunnies they had. When she came to E.A.R.S, she was grown up enough to be adopted (she has never had an home of her own).

mooi 520

I hope my fur doesn’t get wet!

Personality

Mooi’s personality is more calm and sweet. She is a little scared at first, but when she starts to smell you, then it means it is ok to pet her. She is black and white and her front toenails look like they have been painted white! She is playful and she can be interested in what you are doing. When I was playing with her, I had a stuffed soccer ball and I put it down. She came right over and checked it out.

Mooi 505

Soccer, anyone?

Why to adopt her

If you wanted to adopt Mooi, then go ahead! She is very sweet and wants to be loved by an owner that will take her. Like I said, she has never had a home of her own and she would be so delighted to have a wonderful home to live in! So, I recommend Mooi to you for adoption!

Bunny of the Week- And the Winners Are…

The votes are in and we have our winners! Thank you to everyone who participated!

Best Hair

Pharaoh

Pharaoh

Pharaoh is the winner! It’s not surprising, considering that fantastic, crazy hair! He is truly an adorable bunny (and one of the most friendly). He really loves to be cuddled and pet- he begs for attention when you walk by him. It’s amazing that he hasn’t been adopted yet! Who wouldn’t want to take this little man home?!

Best Eyes

Harriet

Harriet

There’s no denying Harriet is a gorgeous bunny. Between her pretty white/grey mane and lightning bolt pattern on her forehead she is already striking, but her beautiful blue eyes seal the deal! She’s got the looks, so all she needs now is her forever home.

Best Ears

Paige

Paige

Paige is the winner! You would think that an English Lop (known for their big ears) would easily win, but she only won by a single vote, beating Oreo for the title. Paige definitely has some impressive ears- they’re giant (like she is), and they’re a lot of fun to play with! Paige is a sweet and fun girl who loves to be pet and cuddled, but also loves to run around and explore. She’s basically a puppy!

Cutest Bonded Pair

Arielle & Danielle

Arielle & Danielle

Arielle and Danielle are the clear winners (of course they are, look at those faces)! These adorable sisters are some of the most fun, entertaining, and friendly rabbits you will ever meet. They love attention, they love to be held, they love to cuddle (with people and each other), they love to run around, they love to binky, and they pretty much just love life! These girls belong in a forever home where they can enjoy life to the fullest!

Cutest Lop

Hilda

Hilda

The cutest lop at EARS is Hilda! This may come as a surprise to some because Hilda is a shy bunny, so she is sometimes overlooked. She really makes you earn her trust, but if you are patient (and give her lots of food), she is a total sweetheart! Just look at that adorable pose she struck for the camera!

Cutest Small Bunny

Mulan

Mulan

Mulan is the winner! Mulan is one of the smallest bunnies we have at EARS, and she is absolutely adorable! The picture does not do justice to how tiny she actually is. Not only is she small, but she’s also incredibly friendly and cuddly! She always begs for attention when you walk by, sticking her nose through the bars of her crate for head scratches. This little girl won’t be at the shelter for much longer, someone is bound to fall in love with her any day now!

Cutest Big Bunny

Charlie

Charlie

Charlie is the winner, but he is no longer a shelter bunny! He was adopted this past week and is now living happily in his forever home! Charlie was a 2x Craigslist bunny- his previous owner originally got him off of Craigslist, and was trying to rehome him on Craigslist before she was contacted by an EARS volunteer. Craigslist is a dangerous way to rehome a rabbit (or any pet). Some people will act like they intend to give the rabbit a good home, but then will use the rabbit to feed their snake or even eat the rabbit themselves (our adoption process ensures our rabbits do not go to people like this)! Luckily for Charlie, his previous owner was wary about giving him to a stranger and decided instead to surrender him to EARS. Now he has a wonderful and loving home!

Most Unique

Gus

Gus

Gus is the most unique rabbit at EARS! He is mostly white with grey smudges on his ears and nose and brown on his back. Gus is very sweet and playful. He does goofy binkies when he gets out to stretch his legs! Gus is truly one of a kind, and the good news is- he’s adoptable!

Most Cuddly

This category was hotly contested, as all six bunnies on the list are very deserving of the title. In the end, it was a three-way tie!

Oreo

Oreo

Oreo (also called Oreo kisses), is a loveable, cuddly, fluffy, soft bunny who just wants somebody to love! This handsome boy has been at the shelter for a really long time and we don’t understand why. He’s cute, he’s friendly, he’s outgoing- he’s the whole package! It’s heartbreaking to see him spending so much of his life at our shelter; he deserves a home and someone who will love him as much as we do!

Julius

Julius

Julius is an awesome little guy. He has so much personality! All he wants to do is play and binky, and be cuddled and pet. He begs for attention constantly- his adorable pouty face is difficult to resist! He has a fluffy white belly and tail, just like a wild bunny. He is a terrific bunny and will make a wonderful companion. The only warning is that he’s so cute, you won’t be able to say no to him!

Pharaoh

Pharaoh

Pharaoh wins again! He’s got awesome hair and is super cuddly! Now that he’s a double award-winning bunny, who would like to adopt him? As soon as you hold him and he starts to purr, you won’t be able to stop yourself from taking him home with you!

Thanks to everyone who participated! Hopefully this was a fun way to get to know some of the adoptable bunnies we have at EARS. If you think you may be interested in adopting and you have questions, send an email to eriearearabbitsocietyandrescue@gmail.com. If you would like to meet the bunnies, we have open adoption hours at the Bunny Bungalow (38th Street) on Wednesdays from 4-7 pm, or you can make an appointment to visit at another time by calling Linda at 814-881-7243.

Meet the bunnies of the week- Caesar, Julius, Magnus, Aphrodite, Athena, and Persephone!

All six when they were only a few months old.

All six when they were only a few months old.

These six adorable bunnies are all brothers and sisters! Caesar, Julius, and Magnus are boys and live separately (and can be adopted individually). Aphrodite, Athena, and Persephone are girls and all three live together happily! The babies were brought in by a woman who took in four rabbits that were dumped onto her property- the two females were pregnant. One litter went to French Creek Animal Rescue, and the other litter came to EARS. The “babies” are now 9 months old, all are spayed or neutered, and they are looking for forever homes!

Magnus was featured previously as a special needs bunny. He hurt his back leg, and now has a bit of a limp. He is not in pain, not on any medications, and is able to get around easily. Magnus is one of the friendliest bunnies you will ever meet. He loves to cuddle and be held, and he really loves attention. He is a great bunny and he needs a forever home that can give him lots of love!

Aphrodite, Persephone, and Athena are sweet sisters. They are shy around people, but with time and patience they will warm up to you. They do not mind being held. All three girls love to snuggle together. They tend to sleep in a big bunny pile! They are so adorable together, every time you look at them you have to suppress a squeal!

Bunnies of the Week- Abel & Ollie!

Meet the bunnies of the week- Abel and Ollie!

Abel and Ollie are the newest Avengers!

Abel and Ollie are the newest Avengers!

Abel and Ollie are bonded brothers. Their former owner had two bunnies that she thought were both female until one had a litter (we hear this story a lot- pet stores are not good at determining the sex of rabbits). She didn’t separate them quickly enough after the first litter was born and the bunny got pregnant again. The first litter, five boys, came to EARS. They were raised in a foster home and named Abel, Dobby, Ollie, Pitri, and Theo (together, their initials spell ADOPT). Abel and Ollie are the last of the litter still at the shelter! They are just under one year old. They are relatively small, Netherland Dwarf and Mini Rex mixes (although they do not have the classic Rex fur).

Ollie is slightly bigger than his brother (which is how we tell them apart). Like his brother, he is also super friendly! He loves to snuggle and have his head scratched. He also does a lot of binkies when he is allowed to run free, which are always adorable and entertaining to watch! He is so happy and energetic and he needs a home where he can be showered with love and attention!

Abel and Ollie are very sweet boys. They are so friendly and happy, it’s amazing that they haven’t been adopted yet! They do so many binkies together they should just be called the binky brothers! These boys would love a forever home where they will have room to showcase their incredible binky skills. Visit EARS to meet Abel and Ollie!

Bunny of the Week- Harriet!

Meet Harriet, the bunny of the week!

Harriet is a punk rocker!

Harriet is a punk rocker- just look at that hair!

Harriet is the daughter of Maverick (adopted) and Rogue (at French Creek). Maverick and Rogue were released outside by their owner along with 12 other rabbits. They were the only two to survive the cold Erie winter of 2013. When they were rescued, and Rogue had her babies, she was so stressed that she started to kill them (not a common behavior for rabbits). Luckily, Ginny‘s babies were only a week old so we put Harriet with her and Ginny accepted her as one of her own. Harriet has been at EARS since April of 2014 (she is just over a year old).

She's a punk punk... punk rocker!

She’s a punk punk… punk rocker!

Harriet is a spunky Lionhead with a big attitude. She is quite gorgeous with her blue eyes, white mane, and lightning pattern on her head. Harriet has the endless energy that comes with being a young rabbit and, like most rabbits, doesn’t enjoy being stuck in a crate all day. She is much happier when she is out of her crate and has room to run. She has so much energy and needs a lot of exercise to work it off. She would do best as a free roam rabbit. It is always entertaining to watch her zoom around and do binkies at top speed!

"Why yes, I am gorgeous!"

“Why yes, I am gorgeous!”

Harriet can be cage territorial and gets annoyed when people mess with her stuff. She needs a home that has experience with rabbits. She would not be a good fit for a home with young children. Harriet needs someone who will provide her with love and understanding, someone who will give her the attention she needs, but also respect her boundaries. If you think you’re up to the challenge, come to the shelter to visit Harriet!

"Growling is just my way of saying I love you."

“Are you done taking pictures yet? I want to go play!”

Bunny of the Week- Mother’s Day Special

Happy Mother’s Day! We decided to celebrate by featuring all of our bunny moms at the shelter (and their children)!

Ginny & Mary

Ginny & Mary are wonderful mommy buns!

Ginny & Mary are bonded mommy buns!

This bonded pair are both mothers! Mary is the mother of North (adopted) and Carolina; Ginny is the mother of Heidi, Milton (adopted), Hershey, and the adopted mother of Harriet. They came to us from a rescue in North Carolina in April of 2014. They were both wonderful moms- Ginny even took in Harriet and cared for her as her own baby. Ginny and Mary went through pregnancy together and raised their babies side by side. With their children all grown up now, Ginny and Mary are looking forward to a loving forever home of their own.

Penelope has been at EARS since March of 2013. She was one of the bunnies rescued from the hoarding situation in Corry. She was rescued with a litter of 6 babies (all since adopted), and was also pregnant at the time. She gave birth to another litter, including Rudy & Claire! She has given birth to so many EARS bunnies, she is basically the mother of EARS! Penelope is one of the sweetest and most gentle rabbits you will ever meet! She loves to cuddle and be pet. She is a special needs rabbit- her right eye is blind and she requires periodic vet check-ups. Penelope is bonded to Dell, and they love each other very much. Now all they need is a forever home!

Hermione is a new arrival at EARS. She was found outside with her son Neville and the two were brought to us. Hermione might be pregnant, so we are waiting to find out! She is a big, gorgeous bunny and is very sweet and playful! She will be available for adoption after the pregnancy watch is over.

Sugar

Sugar is such a great bunny mom!

Sugar is a mommy bun who has been through a lot!

Sugar has been at EARS for almost two years (since June 2013)! Sugar did not have a happy life before coming to EARS. She was found in a hotel desk drawer by a girl who took her home and bred her repeatedly, selling the babies to neighbors. When she found out the neighbors were eating the babies or feeding them to snakes, the girl then started to sell Sugar’s babies to pet stores. Eventually she surrendered Sugar to EARS along with six babies (all in bad shape). With some TLC, Sugar and her babies recovered. Five of those babies have since been adopted, but Jackson stayed with his mommy! Sugar has been through so much, and yet she is still so sweet and loving! She is a great mom to her son Jackson (although she does push him out of the way for food). A forever home would be the happy ending they deserve.

Peach came to EARS a few months ago. She was brought in with her son Sunshine. The person who surrendered them said that she found them by the side of the road in a cardboard box. Peach is a beautiful orange/cream/white bunny. She is a little shy, but she will warm up to you if you put in the time. Sunshine just moved out on his own, and Peach has an empty nest. Won’t you share your home with this sweet mom?
